Communuity Patterns of the Great barrier Reef by Dr. Gerald Goeden, et. al.

Series of trawls in inter-reef areas produced patterns of weak community zonation. Patterns were most closely allied with depth and expressed more clearly by fishes. These could be defined as a relatively rich offshore assemblage and a depauperate inshore assemblage.

Analysis indicates that fishes are probably the best indicator of zonation in the inter-reef regions.
